Happy Hanukkah

This evening the first candle will light on menorahs around the world, celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. This 14 foot menorah was erected this year outside a synagogue in northern Washington DC. That's not actual LEGO, instead it's EverBlock, a LEGO-like building material. The Rabbi wanted to build something like LEGO, just much larger, and partnered up with the president of EverBlock.

Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of some other company's clone blocks

Hanukkah is over, but I've got one more to post before moving on to the season of LEGO-built manger scenes. I didn't post any LEGO-built dreidels this year, because I didn't find any new ones that I didn't post hear last year. The dreidel, of course, is a spinning top that is both used for Hanukkah games and also to remind kids that "A great miracle happened there." Joanna Brichetto, of Bible Belt Balabusta fame, found a clone brand, Binyan Blocks, that sells buildable dreidels, with figures included. Follow the link for Joanna's reviews of these sets.

The Playmo Testament

Markus Bomhard, a German priest began a project to illustrate biblical scenes with Playmo figures. His endeavor even earned favorable mention from the Pope. However, the fine lawyers at Playmo brought suit, and so the Klicky Bibel has been taken down. It may be back again someday in a different form.

I hesitate to bring it up, in fear of additional lawsuits, but it appears that another similar project is also available, the Playmobible.
